England's Lionesses Goalkeeper, Mary Earps Retires Weeks Before the Euros

After an eight-year international career.

Mary Earps, England’s Lionesses goalkeeper and fan favourite, has hung up her international gloves just weeks before Euro 2025 — and honestly, it feels like the end of an era.

At 32, Earps bows out after an international career that saw her rack up 53 caps and play a starring role in England’s glorious Euro 2022 triumph — an achievement she told Sky News that it was “the best day of [her] life.” And who could forget her heroics during the 2023 World Cup run, where she helped England reach the final and snagged the Golden Glove in the process?

She’s not exactly disappearing, though — club football fans will still see her between the posts for Paris Saint-Germain, following her big move from Manchester United. But it’s her presence in the England squad that will be sorely missed. Manager Sarina Wiegman didn’t hide her disappointment, telling Sky News that she had hoped Earps would be a key figure in this summer’s Euros campaign in Switzerland.

With two FIFA Best Goalkeeper awards, the BBC Sports Personality of the Year title in 2023 and a legacy of inspiring the next generation, Earps hasn’t just guarded goals, she’s moved them. Her impact on women’s football has been monumental, and while she’ll be cheering on the squad from afar, her absence will definitely be felt on the pitch.
