How "Flowers" Prepared Miley Cyrus for 'Something Beautiful'

In a new interview with Zane Lowe, Miley Cyrus opens up about her music career and upcoming visual album.
If you enjoyed her last single ”Flowers,” just know it inspired her current era. From iconic looks to her first-ever film, Cyrus’ Something Beautiful is in the running to be her most impactful project yet.
In 2023, the singer released a pop diss track, “Flowers,” on her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth‘s birthday. It rose to the top of music charts for its revenge-coded lyrics and left fans craving more. In her latest interview, she explains that this chapter of Something Beautiful has been a desire for years.
“After ‘Flowers,’ after feeling that validation inside of me I needed to feel, I really felt free to make the album I’ve been craving my whole adult career. Living and experiencing love, family and nature – I found something beautiful. This, to me, is pop music in its fullest form.”
She continued, “You’re allowed to love your hits. When you love a song that other people love, it’s like the most magical, close-to-God feeling. After I felt that validation that somewhere inside me needed to feel, I really felt free to create the album I’ve been craving my whole adult career.”

The lore is even more complicated, however. Cyrus shares that her relationship with the GRAMMY Awards is a great example of her career’s progression. “Every time I’ve lost or not been nominated, the way I’ve been OK with that is by saying ‘that doesn’t matter to me.’
But that changed at the 2024 GRAMMY ceremony. “I was avoiding the fact that it did matter to me somewhere — it wasn’t something I obsessed about, I never wrote a song thinking I want a GRAMMY. But, receiving that GRAMMY for “Flowers” felt more like a band-aid on a broken heart.”
Her upcoming album, Something Beautiful, will also follow Beyoncé‘s influence. The album will release alongside her first-ever visual album — which secured a debut at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival. Following its Tribeca release, Something Beautiful will enter theaters for one day only.
